We are excited to announce the newest addition to the Slinghost Lacrosse Staff.
Coach Ray McDonough is a St. Francis Golden Knight HS Alum (La Canda, CA). At St. Francis, he lettered in football, basketball, and track. As A junior in HS Coach Ray started on both varsity basketball and varsity football and earned several team honors. As a senior, Coach Ray was named to the Glendale and Pasadena All-Area Basketball Teams and also scored an invitation to the Glendale News-Press Annual All-Star Game.
While passionate about all three sports, Coach Ray excelled most notably in football. As a receiver and safety, Coach Ray made All-
League as well as Team Captain of the year in 2005, was named to Glendale Newspress and Pasadena Star News’ All Area First Team, and played in both the 605 and the San Fernando Valley All-Star Games, where he was named the Scholarship Player of the Game. Along with regional awards, Coach was awarded the St. Francis High School’s Athlete of the Year Award for the 2005-2006 school year.
After graduating from St. Francis, Coach Ray opted to go to Glendale Community College where he starred on the football team. His freshman year, he started at safety and earned 2nd Team All Golden State Conference honors, as well as team captain recognition. In his second year at GCC, Coach Ray tied the single game interception record with 3 in one game, as well as tallying 10 interceptions for the season. Coach Ray also led the state for season high, ringing in over 60 tackles at the safety position. Coach Ray was named 1st Team All Conference, 1st All Conference Academic Team, 1st Team All-State, 1st Team All State Academic Team, and received an All American honor. GCC named Coach Ray Team Captain of the Year and Defensive Back of the Year in 2008.
After GCC, Coach Ray continued his academic and football career at Hofstra University in New York. Coach Ray led the Hofstra Pride in interceptions his first year on the team. As a Hofstra scholar-athlete, Ray earned CAA All Conference All-Academic Team honors. In 2009, Ray made the pre-season All America Team at the safety position. Despite suffering a broken pelvis, Ray earned Academic All Conference honors again his senior year.
Upon graduation from Hofstra, Coach Ray channeled his passion for sports and mentorship and began coaching athletes. In 2014, Coach Ray landed the Program Director position at Parisi Speed School in Pasadena. There, he leveraged his own athletic skillset, experience recovering from injuries, sports IQ, and love for athletics to help young athletes exceed their most ambitious goals.
Coach Ray has worked with several professional athletes and countless NCAA collegiate athletes throughout his tenure at Parisi Speed School and STARS of Anaheim. He has experience in two pre-NFL draft/combine prep off season programs, a number of private and small group training programs with Athletes at Notre Dame University, UCLA, Ohio State, Pittsburgh, Duke, Utah State, Cal Poly SLU, Irvine, UFC and more. Coach Ray has years of experience in the area of total body performance enhancement training as well as speaking appearances in the area of mindset and sports preparation.
